Ben Franceschi

Ben Franceschi is an architect at MATHISON | MATHISON ARCHITECTS.

Growing up in Portland, Oregon, Ben’s family provided a strong influence in the fields of painting, carpentry, psychiatry, and religion. This combination lead him to explore architecture and philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to complete his education at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he graduated with distinction.

He began his career at Huntsman Architectural Group in San Francisco, then in Boston at Jonathan Levi Architects and Moshe Safdie Architects before working alongside Evan Mathison at Maryann Thompson Architects. His projects have ranged from medical facilities to multi-unit housing to libraries.

Ben’s strong communication skills help people discover how they want to live in their homes, or inhabit any space with intention and meaning. He translates desires and functions into design. He designs to capture the natural beauty of the site.

He saw moving to West Michigan to work with Mathison I Mathison Architects as an amazing opportunity. He shares not only their design values but their family values. He has enjoyed stumbling upon the many modern gems around West Michigan, and is inspired by the Midwest’s tradition of modernism. Ben is excited to see people valuing and demanding strong design in their homes here.

While most of his recent time has been devoted to his growing, young family he loves community. He has worked as a camp counselor for marginalized youth, as a tutor and mentor and is always involved in his church. He looks forward to making West Michigan, where his wife grew up, his home.
