Interior Designer, NCIDQ, IIDA
Jennifer is an interior designer with MATHISON I MATHISON ARCHITECTS.
Realizing her love of design and creativity perfectly dovetailed with her logical and organized approach to problem solving, Jennifer knew that she was going to be a designer. In fact, another career never even crossed her mind.
After graduating with honors from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design, her career began at a design firm in Atlanta, GA, where she gained valuable experience in commercial projects. Jennifer’s last five years were spent in Chicago working on residential and commercial projects, most recently as the lead interior designer for Valerio Dewalt Train Associates.
Jennifer enjoys the responsibility and personal touch that come with interpreting a client’s desires to create a tangible and logical outcome. Her rigorous approach and talent for pulling finishes and furnishings together have been an asset for coworkers, as well as her ability to seamlessly integrate them into a cohesive architectural vision.
Michigan’s growing design community and the opportunity to enhance Mathison | Mathison Architect’s commercial and residential portfolios with interior design are primarily what lead Jennifer back home. She was also drawn to West Michigan’s accessibility to outdoor activities like paddle boarding or hiking the dunes with her dog, the growing design and food scene, the rejuvenation of housing and neighborhoods, and the proximity to her own family.
Jennifer recently participated in a high school senior mentorship program in Chicago that helped first generation, college-bound youth, and was active in IIDA and the local design community. She is excited to get involved in the growing art and design scene in Grand Rapids, as it continues to transform and draw young people back to West Michigan.
