Matt Christie is an architect with MATHISON | MATHISON ARCHITECTS.
Matt appreciates the wide range of challenges that architecture presents with each project. He views the design process as a unique opportunity to engage with the client, understand their needs and ultimately create places for them to live, work, play and experience design in built form.
He combines materials and systems to create compositions that are rich in nature, true to materials and timeless. Matt’s local work has been focused on non-profit, community based project types. His international work has been primarily focused in the aviation industry.
Matt completed a Bachelor of Architecture at Lawrence Technological University and a Master of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Upon graduation he spent 8 years at Ghafari Associates in Chicago. There he built a strong knowledge and experience with 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. He excels at BIM lead projects which proactively resolve inevitable challenges prior to construction. His previous experience has afforded him a broad range of project types ranging from a Chicago Park District Field House to a 4,000,000 square foot aircraft complex in Saudi Arabia.
Matt was drawn to the design creativity of MATHISON | MATHISON ARCHITECTS. He is excited to serve Grand Rapids, a city he sees as rich in art and design.
While in Chicago, Matt mentored youth through Team M3, where youth train to run the Chicago marathon with adult mentors from their community, while learning self-awareness, discipline, and healthy habits.
