About Mathison | Mathison Architects

Connecting People Through Inspiring Design

What We Do

At Mathison | Mathison Architects, we believe that human-centered design is good design and leads to sustainable and resilient futures. We actively seek to blur boundaries between inside and outside, connecting people with nature and their surrounding context, for healthy, engaging environments. We trust our intuition and use a range of diverse tools - simple and sophisticated -to energetically test ideas, to find the right design direction. Your goals, your vision, your project.

Berkshire Ridge Interior
Philosophy & Values

We create meaningful spaces that matter to people.

Our priorities are guided by our collaborative approach to problem-solving; a team culture that nurtures and retains great talent; a commitment to sustainable, practical and high-performance solutions; our uncommon attention to detail; and our desire to leverage our talents to the betterment of our community.

01

Extend

We reach into the community and do this together. We take responsibility and make it our problem. What we do matters to someone else.

02

Own It

We care and dig deep. We persist and see it through. We speak up, invest, and challenge expectations.

03

Tune In

We work smart and we get it. We read between the lines. We challenge, rethink, and don’t accept what’s there. We make it better.

04

Be Authentic

We are genuine and embrace honesty. We are non-ego and friendly. We act with integrity and do what we say we will do.

05

Adapt

We are flexible and able to pivot, not rigid. We iterate with intention.

Meet MMA’s Leadership
History

On October 10, 2013 father and son duo Tom and Evan Mathison formed Mathison | Mathison Architects. MMA grew fast in its first year, and in less than eighteen months, we were a staff of six and had outgrown the upstairs offices in Tom’s house. It became obvious that MMA needed legitimate office space.

In early 2015, after spending weeks looking at various downtown spaces, MMA settled on the top floor of 560 Fifth Street. The ceilings were very high and contained the spatial quality we needed. It was in rough shape, but we committed to leasing the space and renovating it into our offices.

MMA was recognized shortly thereafter for our first design award, for our very own offices!
