A building should compliment its site and landscape.

Excerpts from our "Ask the Expert" segment with Shelley Irwin on December 17:

Q: Do you do landscape design?

A: We don’t choose actual plants but rather focus on the buildings connection to landscape. We are always thinking about the ground plane and how that relates to interior spaces and how the building interacts with the landscape. Once complete it should feel simple and like it was meant to be there.

Q: Let's talk about sustainability.

A: Sustainability is a foundation of our practice. Everything we do has sustainability in mind ranging from energy efficiency to choices about materials and incorporating sustainable systems. We have a strong partner in Green Home Institute who helps with material, research and system options.

Now that’s a trophy!

One our favorite builders, Matt Reinsma of Bespoke Homes stopped by with a pretty incredible surprise for our own Megan Feenstra-Wall.

They are working on a residential project together and when Matt presented the trophy to Megan he said he has never worked with an architect as good as her.  She helps keep the project moving forward responding efficiently and effectively to the client needs and requests.

He emailed later saying, "I meant every word about how the effort from you and MMA is second to none.  Keep up the great work.

Thanks Matt - we think you're pretty great too and look forward to many more projects together.
