The goal of the project was to expand the home’s functionality and flexibility for a young and active family. Specifically, the renovation included reworking the busiest areas of the house: family entry, mudroom, laundry, kitchen, and office space. The kitchen and eat-in areas were rotated 90 degrees to offer expanded views through a large glass wall and improved access to the existing backyard pool area. The new, modern spaces were treated as an insertion into the exposed post and beam frame of the house, a material language that was important to maintain. New family entry spaces were incorporated into the design, including updated laundry and mudroom spaces, with new rear pool access. A dark and narrow corridor which provided access to the office and main level primary suite is now wider and full of natural light through the office.
