We celebrated a beautiful day at the grand opening of the new Gerald R. Ford International Airport Viewing Park and Pavilion. With our friends at the airport, the Cascade Community Foundation and Owen-Ames-Kimball we re-opened the viewing park to the public introducing additional parking, the new pavilion for shade, new restroom facilities, new picnic tables and benches and new trash receptacles (which are large enough to slide a pizza box in after lunch!). We were honored to to provide the design of the pavilion which was inspired by flight with the roof lines reflecting airplane wings and following the lines […]
MMA was proud to participate in the ground breaking ceremony at the new Kellogg Community College Miller Physical Education Building! After many many hours, multiple options, multiple cost estimates over a number of years, this project is finally underway! A proud moment for KCC and its student athletes, as well as the entire design and construction team led by MMA on the design side, and construction managers Walbridge / Schweitzer for implementation. It had been pouring rain for twenty minutes before the ceremony, and it stopped just in time for a few photos. This ceremony was followed by a dinner […]
Thanks to Bill Lindhout Photography for the beautiful finished photography of our Lake House project. This evening shot is our favorite. This modern lake residence is located north of Grand Rapids, Michigan and is perfect for entertaining. The design embraces the narrow lake lot providing privacy but maintaining lake views throughout. See all images and more information about the project HERE.
Thanks to everyone who attended the West Michigan Design Week tour of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Viewing Park & Pavilion! Thanks to Owen-Ames-Kimball and the Cascade Community Foundation for your participation. It was exciting to be able to share our design inspiration and thought process around the project. Look for the grand opening in May! Read more about the project HERE.

Registration is FREE. Join our team along with the builder, Owen-Ames-Kimball and representatives from the Cascade Community Foundation. We will also have a new […]
Thanks to MLive and Jim Harger for another great article! EAST GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Architect Evan Mathison and builder Matt Reinsma have combined the best of mid-century modern design and the latest in energy efficiency in the home they created for Todd and Kelli Mulderink. The decor may hearken back to the 1950s, but the methods and materials used to build the five-bedroom house are among latest advancements in sustainable design. Triple-paned windows and doors were imported from Europe and feature sophisticated locks and jambs designed to keep out the cold, heat and moisture. The floors are heated with […]
The steel for the pavilion is set at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport viewing park and pavilion! Standing underneath the structure, you really start to get a sense of the enclosure and the framed view of the runways and landscape. The experience of standing inside the nonlinear ‘forest of columns’ is exciting and provides the sense of wonder and meandering that we were after. The sense of contact with the architecture is also enriched by the ultra-smooth finish we specified for the metal columns. Carpenters are now fast at work blocking out on the steel and concrete block, […]
