LowellArts had been experiencing a consistent increase in support by residents and visitors, which resulted in them outgrowing their existing gallery and performance venue. In support of their mission to connect regional artists and audiences through visual and performing arts, LowellArts! reached out to MMA to create a new home in downtown Lowell, Michigan, in the heart of the historic district.

Overview

By purchasing and renovating two adjoining downtown buildings, LowellArts! now has room to creatively thrive in a transformed location, which is highly visible, easily accessible, centrally-located, and has plenty of parking space. The combined main level of both buildings includes 4,700 square feet (more than twice the size of the former location) for expanded gallery and performance space, a multi-purpose room, office and storage space. Large openings between the two buildings create a sense of unity in the main gallery. The project also included new roofing, exterior windows, exterior wall repairs and finishes, and a new barrier-free entrance from the parking lot. MMA worked closely with LowellArts! staff and board of directors to create flexible, open spaces that convert easily to fit the wide variety of events and shows that they offer.
